Avastin has been a wonder drug for me. Early in 2009, I noticed that something was very wrong with my vision. Vertical lines were all broken. If I was driving, the phone poles looked like their top halves were separate from their bottom halves. Worse, when I looked at the computer screen, the letters were all broken. I could not read. I went to see my retina specialist (rs) who took some pictures and then did an ophthalmic angiogram. My husband watched the screen and, once the dye was injected, he could actually see blood dripping in one area. The rs diagnosed myopic macular degeneration in my right eye with a bleed that was causing the problem. He asked me to come back the following morning for a laser treatment (photodynamic therapy - PDT) and a shot of Avastin in the eye. The whole idea was horrifying, but I believed it was the best option. I truly trust and respect my rs. The PDT was no big deal. An IV put the Visudyne into my arm and the doctor shined a laser into my eye for a few seconds. It was bright but it did not hurt. Still, I could not stop crying when it was over. The PDT would, hopefully, stop the bleeding. Next, a tiny sponge was placed inside my lower eyelid, to numb my eye for the Avastin shot. Avastin would dry up the blood that had already leaked into my eye. My rs came in and put a clip on my eye to hold it open. I was really dreading this shot. I could not imagine anything worse than a shot in my eye. My doctor told me to look up and to the left. "You are going to feel a little pressure," he said, and he lifted a teeny, tiny needle and injected the Avastin into the white near the bottom of my eye. It was over in a second. Pressure? It was the most awful sensation to "feel" the injection, even though there was not really any pain. He flushed my eye with saline and put in some antibiotic drops and sent me on my way. Time would tell whether the treatment would work, but my rs seemed to have supreme confidence that it would. I covered all my skin from the sun (Visudyne for the PDT makes people extremely light sensitive for a couple of days.) I was to return in six weeks for a second shot of Avastin, which was to be the second in a series of three. The good news is that the PDT and Avastin worked a miracle. By my second visit, my vision had improved significantly. As time has gone on, I have had a second bleed, requiring a second PDT treatment. This time, the treatment left a blind spot in the center of my vision. I am now receiving an Avastin injection every six weeks for an indefinite length of time. Forever, I guess, unless they come up with a new treatment. My vision is best about a week after the shot, is good for a couple of weeks, and then starts to deteriorate. My next shot is in 10 days, so my vision is pretty bad right now. I have had seven shots in all. I hate those shots. I dread those shots. But, I am getting used to them. I love being able to see. I will do anything to keep my vision for as long as possible. Even take a shot in the eye.

CytoDyn may be ending up in Theory Detective Doctor. The author Lalezari from Mission Medical Investigation when it comes to finalizing their own work at the 'Phase 2' test associated with 'Cytolin', that is a good defense treatment. This functions together with the human being defense techniques, to not remedy, however to manage, the actual HIV an infection. It is filled with guarantee, which is famous since it had been really utilized regarding two complete many years prior to the 'antiretroviral cocktails' arrived on the scene.

The primary objective of the conference is actually to select the direction to go to get Cytolin authorized through the FDA. Requirements with regard to HELPS remedies develop along with every moving 12 months, because brand new research as well as brand new medicines develop. It is wished which Cytolin will help manage the actual HIV and therefore hold off the requirement with regard to anyone to start the actual antiretroviral treatment.

Essentially, Cytolin is really a monoclonal antibody. It is essentially antibodies through rodents. Scientists think that there is a drawback within the human being defense mechanisms. That is simply because just people obtain ill in the HIV computer virus. Creatures obtain the computer virus, however all of us obtain ill, plus they do not. Therefore the final outcome our defense techniques are not just about all they must be. These people think that Cytolin may 'correct' the actual defense mechanisms drawback, that is different then they have been performing, attempting to 'reconstitute' the actual defense mechanisms.

The actual achievement with regard to Cytolin appears great, however setting it up authorized is definitely an uphill fight. The actual FDA asked for the check through CytoDyn by which CytoDyn needed to react how the ask for had been not possible to satisfy. However the dedication associated with CytoDyn is not hampered. They've provide their own reaction to the actual FDA as well as below Area 117 (C)(3) from the Meals as well as Medication Modernization Behave associated with 1997, they've just thirty days on invoice of the total reaction, to do something onto it.

This particular entire procedure has taken the actual FDA below near overview, providing energy to a lot of conspiracy theory hypotheses, because of their unwillingness in order to say yes to some thing that's the immediate reverse associated with some thing these people would not say yes to prior to. Raptiva had been a good antibody which was designed to perform the precise reverse associated with exactly what Cytolin will, and also the FDA replied exactly the same method.

The actual FDA is actually considered infamously underfunded as well as understaffed. This particular introduces additional queries. When the FDA is really insufficient, and it is authorization is not thought to mean that medicines tend to be secure, after that the reason why ought to medication businesses invest vast amounts of bucks for your authorization? Is not this particular among the elements resulting in the actual higher price associated with healthcare? This particular appears to become a actual clutter.

Sometime in early August 2007, Swee (not real name, 71 years old female from Indonesia) had coughs with blood stained phlegm. She consulted a general medical practitioner who ordered an X-ray to be done, suspecting that she might have tuberculosis. The X-ray showed a tumour in her lung. She was subsequently referred to a specialist who did a CT scan and found "a 4.8 x 3.9 cm soft tissue mass with lymphadenopathy of the right lung." It was a 3A cancer. A biopsy was recommended but Swee declined and decided to come to Penang for a second opinion. In Penang, a bronchial biopsy was done and the result confirmed the earlier diagnosis. It was a "infiltrating, poorly differentiated carcinoma. Iressa " Swee was referred to an oncologist for chemotherapy. A day before Swee was scheduled for chemotherapy she received a phone call from a relative telling her to go for treatment in China instead. This she did without hesitation. Swee was treated in a private hospital in China for twenty-eight days. She underwent the following treatments: 1. Chemotherapy with Navelbine. 2. Cyroablation using Argon-helium. Three cryoprobes were inserted into the lesion and the whole freezing process was monitored with the CT scan until "iceball" completely covered the target mass. After two freezing-thaw cycles the cryoprobes were pulled out. 3. Radioacative iodine seeds implantation. Under guided CT scan, 15 radioactive iodine-125 seeds were implanted into the tumour mass. The doctors concluded that these treatments were successful. Swee was allowed to return home to Indonesia. In November 2007, Swee returned to China for her second round of treatment. This visit lasted fifteen days. She underwent the same treatments: chemotherapy with Navelbine, cryoablation and iodine seed implantation. According to the doctors, the second procedure was successfully carried out and the patient's condition Iressa was better. According to her son who accompanied her to China, the Chinese doctors suggested that Swee undergo a total of six treatments. Her son said: "The doctors assured us that the tumour will go away but at the same time warned that the cancer can spread to other parts of the body.
